Amazon’s Jeff Bezos Teased on Giving His Astounding $140 Billion Wealth!
There’s no doubt that Jeff Bezos is one of the richest people in the world. In fact, his current net worth is more than $140 billion, according to Forbes. With massive wealth like that, many people are curious as to how he’s going to spend all of it. If anything, he can either choose to spend it in buying all the grandest things in this world, or share it with the public, if he so desires. And it seems Bezos intends to do the latter! Let us uncover what his future plans are and how the world can benefit from his wealth.
Bezos’ Philanthropic Efforts
Last year, Bezos published a Tweet on his Twitter account asking his followers for some ideas or establishing a philanthropic strategy in which he can spend most of his time with. He also preferred to work on these areas for the long-term. Ever since then, his loyal fans have been giving him suggestions and the Amazon CEO has been soliciting these ideas to find his suitable charitable giving efforts.
Last Wednesday, exactly a year ago since he posted his tweet, Bezos went on Twitter again and said he finally found the “two areas” of philanthropic efforts he’ll be focusing on. And he’s excited to announce it before the end of the Summer season. He also hopes that by then, he could also announce some job hiring posts, hinting his new venture could create new employment opportunities which can help people land a job.
Sharing his Amassed Wealth
While Bezos’ new philanthropic efforts remain a mystery to the public, many business experts speculated that this time, Bezos is willing to spend his massive wealth for his new ventures. In fact, Mathias Dopfner, the CEO of Axel Springer, suspected Bezos will be investing heavily in space travel specifically in his company, Blue Origin.
According to the interview, Bezos revealed that funding Blue Origin allowed him to deploy his financial resources to space travel. He revealed how funding the company was expensive enough for his fortune. In fact, he’s been liquidating about $1 billion of his Amazon stocks a year for his new company. And he plans on doing so for a long time. Bezos also considered the Blue Origin the most important work he has for now.
Criticisms on Amazon and Bezos
Despite the massive success, Bezos enjoyed with his global-retail company, Amazon, he also received his fair share of criticisms from the public. Amazon, along with other giant tech companies in Seattle, opposed its newly passed business tax that would’ve helped fund an affordable housing project for poor and homeless people. The said project would’ve been helping homeless people off the streets. However, the Seattle City Council pursued the federal tax law, despite the threats they received.
In 2016, the Fortune reported how Amazon workers in Scotland’s were sleeping in tents near its warehouse facilities, despite the harsh frosty breeze of cold winter. When asked why they’re sleeping in tents, they answered they could not afford to travel back and forth from their home to their office.
The China Labor Watch also slammed Amazon after its report revealed the terrible working conditions of its workers at Foxconn Factory, which is responsible for the production of Echo devices. The workers were allegedly forced to work overtime for over 100 hours, while being underpaid. They claimed the workers only earned enough money to live a decent life.
