17 Years After It Stopped Running, This Sitcom Still Continues to Make Millions
The Lucrative Seinfeld Show
Seinfeld, the eponymous sitcom named after Jerry Seinfeld was at some point one of the most watched, culturally significant as well as the most lucrative show of all time. However, what is actually more interesting is how lucrative this show still is for this star and co-creator.
First of, when Jerry Seinfeld was working on the Seinfeld show, he got a very healthy salary, and that was long before he got his lucrative syndication rights as well as other future and present revenue streams. Seinfeld was making one million dollars for each episode together with his 3 other co-stars.
However, it was after the massively phenomenal finale of the series that the cool cash started to roll in for Seinfeld, Larry David and the other rights holders of the show.
In the 1990s Seinfeld was included on a 60 second commercial of Apple tagged Think Different even though he wasn’t in the original cut. However, the shorter version only aired once, and that was only during the series’ finale.
Syndicated Reruns
In its syndicated reruns, the show has remained a popular favorite, and that’s obvious from the fact that one can get a rerun on TV virtually within any given time. As at 2018, the sitcom earned approximately $3.1 billion just in syndication, and at its peak, it was selling reruns to channels for over $5 million for each episode.
That is with the inclusion of what the cable channels paid just to get Seinfeld on their cable. The sum came in at an estimated sum of $379 million in revenue for the first 3 syndication cycles of the show which is in its fifth cycle.
The whole sum can be quite confusing and the actual terms Jerry Seinfeld gets from the show have not been completely disclosed. However, there is no doubt he has become a very wealthy man riding on the shoulders of this show and now has a net worth not less than $800 million.
The show also has a deal with Hulu that would have the network streaming it. The deal is worth a whopping $160 million which is about $875,000 for each episode, and a considerable part of that also goes to Jerry Seinfeld.
Earnings Over The Years
In 2015, about 17 years after the show went off air, Jerry Seinfeld went home with $36 million, and that sum is sufficient to make him the comedian who earns the most in the world. While people may eventually stop watching this show on both TV as well as the internet, one can still safely assume that the comedian wouldn’t have much to worry about.
Between 2004 and 2007, the former cast and crew of Seinfeld recorded diverse audio commentaries for some episodes of the shows DVD release. Seinfeld on his part provided the commentary for several episodes.
